Chapter the Third
Small studio.
Long memory.
A small studio working at the intersection of AI, cloud, and product engineering — with a bias toward keeping things simple and well-built.
— Mission
We help teams turn ambitious ideas into software that works in production and is reasonable to maintain. We take on a small number of projects at a time so we can stay close to the work.
Engagements are scoped around concrete outcomes, with regular check-ins and a written summary at the end so what we did is easy to pick up later.

Guo Chen.
Guo has spent the last decade or so building software in AI/ML, marketing and advertising platforms, and product-engineering roles. The work has ranged from applied machine learning to large enterprise applications.
He started Fruit Cloud Co. to focus on smaller, hands-on projects with teams who care about how things are built.

What we
care about.
A short list, kept short on purpose. These are the things we try to actually live by, not the ones that sound nice on a website.
Craft
How a thing is made tends to show up later — in bug counts, on-call shifts, and how easy it is for someone new to pick up. We try to take that seriously.
Restraint
A lot of good engineering is choosing what not to build. We aim for the smallest reasonable solution and try to keep accidental complexity out.
Candor
We say what we think, including when it isn’t flattering for the project. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll tell you.
Patience
We’d rather take an extra week and get something right than rush. Quiet, durable work tends to pay off.
